Hello all,
It's been a VERY long time since I updated by 3rd Gen, so I just wanted to check that PlexConnect was still working with whatever the latest software update Apple provides to the 3rd gen boxes before I update it. Thank you.
PlexConnect compatible with latest AppleTV 3rd Gen software update?
PlexConnect local library search doesnt give any results when using latest PMS
Windows 8.1 environment, PlexConnect v0.5 and PMS installed on same machine.
When you search your local libraries you get no results when using latest PMS 0.9.14.4.
I downgraded to PMS 0.9.12.19 and everything works fine again.
Searching in PMS does work flawlessly on both tested PMS versions, but not in PlexConnect.
Does anybody else experience the same problems?

ATV enters perpetual buffering during video (SOLVED)
Three problems have been reported in this thread. This can make debugging problematic. So I have opened this separate thread to handle the situation where the ATV stops buffering when playing a film, it's possible to navigate through the ATV menus, but it's not possible to play any film at all, neither from PlexConnect, nor from YouTube or other channels.
I was lucky to have a file with which I could reproduce the problem, so I have used it in all my tests. Each test was preceeded by the following actions:
- Stop PMS and PlexConnect
- Delete PMS and PlexConnect logs
- Start PMS and PlexConnect
- Reboot the ATV
PlexConnect report form
- Your ATV model (2 or 3) and firmware version (found under the ATV settings > general > about > Apple TV software): ATV3 Rev.A firmware 7.0.3
-
The DNS server set on the ATV (found under the ATV settings > general > network > DNS): 192.168.1.100
-
The local IP address of the device that PlexConnect is installed on: 192.168.1.100
-
The device and operating system (including version number) that PlexConnect is installed on: Synology DS411slim (armv5 processor), DSM 5.1-5022 Update 2, Python Module 0002 from Synology
-
The device and operating system (including version number) that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on: same as PlexConnect
-
The Plex media server (PMS) version number you are running: 0.9.11.7 for Synology ARM
-

The film used for testing has two audio tracks, AC3 and AAC, I've always used the AAC track for the tests (although the ATV always started playing the AC3 track when Dolby Digital was On, so I had to select the AAC track during the initial minutes of play).
So here are the tests:
- Using PlexConnect from bwynants installer 0.5-7, and setting Dolby Digital (in the ATV menu) to On - I've played the film 2-3 times to confirm that I could reproduce the problem. The ATV entered in perpetual buffering at varying times (normally on chapter 16 or after). Loglevel was Normal in PlexConnect, and PMS verbose logging was disabled
- Then I changed Dolby Digital to Off, and to my great surprise the film played to the end. I've played it twice, and the "perpetual buffering" problem did not appear
- Then I changed Dolby Digital back to Off, this time the problem appeared
- Willing to create a "clean" testing environment, I made a git clone from Baa's repository on Feb 5th ~12:00 (UK time). I've also set Dolby Digital to On, PlexConnect logs to High, and PMS logs to verbose. After rebooting the ATV I started to play the film, and to my great surprise it played until the end
- I was really puzzled with test 4, so I went back to the bwynants 0.5-7 version of PlexConnect, and the problem appeared again
- Then I tested again with the version used in test #4, and this time the problem appeared
The fact is that tests #4 and #6 have used exactly the same PlexConnect code, nevertheless one was Ok, and the other showed the problem. I'm attaching the log files for both.
Plexconnect after PC sleep mode and order of opening (plexconn vs PMS)
I'm having an issue I'd love to get resolved as it requires me to constantly be going down to my server PC and restarting plexconnect and PMS. So I have everything up and running, and it's all working great. The problem arises when the PC goes into sleep mode. When it comes out, connection from the ATV to plexconnect does not function. I can see 4 or 5 instances of python.exe *32 running, but it does not allow connection. It seems like after a certain period of time it stops serving, but not sure what is really failing. I'm on Win 7 64-bit. Any ideas on what I can start looking for? Why would it not work coming out of sleep? The icing on the cake would be to get my wake on LAN working, to kick on the PC when I turn on the ATV, but can't seem to get that set up either (been working in the bios, with the properties of the LAN card, etc).
Almost there...but stuck with adding profile...
Hello All,
I am new to PlexConnect and am trying to get it working with my ATV3 but for some reason, it just loops at the very end when trying to add the certificate profile. I have copied the two files as instructed but still have the trailers.key file on the desktop - I didn't see any instructions on where to place this remaining file.
I have PlexServer running on my Mac Pro which is on Mavericks 10.9.2. I am using Python 2.7.5 on my OSX Mavericks build and as reported from the terminal window when I launch PlexConnect. I have made the DNS entry on the Apple TV the same as the IP which my Mac Pro is configured on running the server software - which happens to be a manually set static-ip address. I believe have followed everything to the 'T' as per the instructions but for some reason, I just can't get the profile added which I assume is the very last step.
Any ideas/suggestions on where I should be looking next...? I appreciate any help/advice in advance...
Cheers,
Vin.
PlexConnect can't find my server but is logged in MyPlex
Hello,
I have been struggling with PlexConnect the whole week-end, with few results.
PlexConnect is up and ready on my Raspberry Pi. The aTV is able to access internet with the Pi as the DNS server.
I can log in into MyPlex with PlexConnect on the Apple TV.
The issue is: PlexConnect can't find the PSM server.
On the contrary, the iOS app are able to reach my PMS and read content, the same for the webapp.
Please find below the details of my setup...
After a lot of reading on the forum, I have fine tuned a bit my installation, with no success....
I have spotted an error with Python:

All songs tab for plex?
Hey all
So I have a small request and am hoping to get some help with it.
In PlexConnect i'd like to be able to go to music and have a new tab at top called "All Songs"
I like most of my music library and just like having it all on shuffle and just keep pressing next over tracks I don't like.
Is this an option I can set already or does a feature need to be added?
Thank you
No Sound when playing movies
I have noticed of late that my movies do not play on the Apple TV (3rd Gen) using the Plex Connect. As I have test the same movie files on the Roku Stick and Pleax App on Smart Tv and play without any trouble it seems that the PlexConnect may not be a fan of AC3 sound format !
PlexConnect on FreeNAS can't login to MyPlex

I saw what appeared to be a promising suggestion on the following GitHub issue page: https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/issues/341 . However, even after making the suggested changes to lines 38 and 378 of PlexAPI.py, the issue persists.
Thanks in advance for any help!

AWESOME!!! - Only just found this = amazing (iPlayer works too!)
What a cool idea, wiki instructions were a little bit vague on ATV setup bit, but got there in the end. Cannot believe this is 2 years old and I only just found it! I was googling to see what Plex looks like on an ATV4 and stumbled across this.
I had the iPlayer channel installed, ran it and it worked really snappily, so iPlayer has been on ATV3 all along! Must see what other plugins work.
Inspired work!
2 interfaces, 2 Plex Media Server
Hi,
I want to know if PlexConnect GDM Discovery is capable to search in 2 different interfaces. I explain: here I have 2 distinct networks, and the machine where PlexConnect in running has 2 interfaces, each one in one network.
Thanks in advance.
Setting up Autostart on Windows 10 and other Win 10 issues
I'm starting this here so it can have it's own thread, for this and other Windows 10 issues. Plexconnect basically works, but some of the setup steps don't work out as expected. Mainly you can't invoke Python from a command prompt like it seems you can do in other windows versions. But you can invoke a .py file.
Here's what happened so far: I set up Plexconnect which works fine, then I installed PyWin32 (for the auto-start) which worked with my version of Python, then I tried to run the install.bat file for setting up the Service. Which failed because I may not have the Plexconnect folder in the right place. I extracted the zip into Program Files, and it created 2 nested folders named "Plexconnect - Master", the files being in the second folder.
The installer.bat could not find the files it was looking for. So I edited the batch file putting in direct paths to Plexconnect. Plus, because of the Python command issue, I had to run the Batch files from the Python folder itself.
Then when I ran the start batch file, I also had to edit the paths. But when I tried to run it, it did not start the service, it merely opened a command window to my Python folder. So I need to find a syntax that will work with windows 10.
Finally, after I rebooted, the PyWin32 service was running, but Plexconnect wasn't loaded.
At that point I gave up and just ran Plexconnect.py from an admin command prompt, which is odd because it starts a Python console right up. But you can't start Python itself using any of the commands from the batch files.
So the Python service starts, but it's not loading Plexconnect. When I get on my Plex PC I'll post the batch files as I edited them.
install SLL certificate on aTV doesn't work
Hi guys, i just can't get it to work. Pressing the play button on send data do apple doesn't do anything... it just makes a sound and nothing....
I've been using plexconnect just fine but spend a few time without using it... just recently i've had to replace the MacBook Pro motherboard but no os install, everything stayed the same on the computer.
today, when i turned on aTV it prompted me to update wich i didn't... just after that it shwoed me a message saying it could not login.. i just went on with it and aTV seemed to worked fine... then i changed back to manual DNS after deleting old certs and aTV setting on open plea and made new certs. when i tried to add the profile to aTV the play button didn't work!!!
I'm running OS 10.10.5 and aTV 3rd ten running aTV software 7.1(7003)
what should i do?
thanks
What *.xml is atv3 using?
Hey guys
Does anyone know what DLNA xml profile atv3 is using out of the Profiles folder?
is it iOS-AppleTV.xml?
Can I take this perfectly working profile and use it in place of the IOS.xml profile?
I have a iPhone 6plus on ios 9.02 with Plex V4.0.8 and server 0.9.12.x
Thank you
User exits
Would it be possible to implement user exits in PlexConnect ? More specifically, I would love to call a script to launch PMS when I enters trailers because PMS is not allowing my Syno to sleep. Other users have similar needs, such as sending WOL magic packet.
Apple TV (first gen) plex connect QNAP
hi everybody,
i'm new to flex, i have just bought a Qnap NAS TS-451 and installed on it the plex server.
How can i watch my tv series and movies on the apple tv first generation (grey one with hard disk inside)?
Is it possibile to use plex connect? Any app, OS X based?
Thanks
aTV4 alternate PlexConnect method possible?
So I was playing around with the aTV4 and I was able to add certs and point the DNS @ my PlexConnect host. Yes I know you can add the native Plex app or PlexConnectApp via USB-C. My question is if we could still hijack a particular app could we serve up a modified PlexConnect TVOS XML's instead of loading a new version everytime via the USB-C? My guess is no according to this topic but still is interesting that you can still upload certs and change the DNS like on the aTV2/3:
You can add certs by navigating to general then privacy, then press play on send data to apple. I tried movie trailers but nothing happened which is expected so far since aTV4 likely isn't detected yet (if ever added) and tvos isn't being served.

Hey guys, I have a question for anyone who works on PlexConnect or uses plugins in PlexConnect.
Will the search ever work on PlexConnect?
Clicking Search just returns "no response from server"
There is a new plugin here http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/160562/rel-youtubetv-alternative-youtube-plugin
It is for youtube, but the search function works with PlexConnect.
This would lead me to think that it should also be doable in other plugins?
This plugin when open has the words "Plex Channels at the top" this is a bit ddifferent from other plugins I have right now.
Clicking changes those words to "Channel Search" and does a pretty good job of searching Youtube.
How was this Dev able to do this?
PlexConnect on aTV2/jailbroken -> launchctl
In reference to... https://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/72129-new-hack-running-the-plexconnect-python-script-on-your-jailbroken-atv2/?hl=%2Bnew+%2Bhack
Here is the thing:
With the support for the native client seemingly ceased and our improvements in running PlexConnect all over the world (OSX, Win, Linux,... directly or as daemon...) I took another look into "installing" PlexConnect on my aTV2.
Reusing most of the OSX launchctl stuff I was finally able to make it - it stays there, even after a reboot. No ssh and stuff required. :-D
There still are some rough edges that need work...
a.) Still hijacking Trailers. Though we should be able to add a nice new icon.
-> ExtraInternetCategories.plist, bag.plist,... wahlman, jdilinger?
b.) With the OSX plist, launchctl dies at startup, when spawning the WebServer secondary processes
-> sys.stdout.flush() doesn't work as stdout is - aeh - nothing?
Is this a limitation of iOS (5.2.x)? Or python 2.7.3 - nothing newer available?
Any iOS developers around with background information?
Currently I got it fixed with adding
