AppleTV not installing profile

Hey everyone. Had a working AppleTV 3 conneted to PlexConnect via the trailers app about a year ago, however, it got disconnected a while back and I decided to turn it on. Attempted to reinstall the profile (after removing it), but even with plexconnect running the device won't install the cert. I've verified that the trailers.cer and trailers.pem files are in the certificates folder, DNS is set to the Server Host IP and both devices are on the same network, but after circling the apple tv won't install the certificate. Any ideas on what I'm missing? went through the install guide again just in case something was missing, but I can't find anything.

Linux (Ubuntu 15.04) help - need SystemD start up file for PlexConnect

Hi All,

I'm trying to get PlexConnect to launch automatically at system boot under Linux (Ubuntu 15.04 Server).

Conscious they have moved to SystemD now instead of Upstart etc.

Does anyone have a SystemD (preferably Ubuntu) start up file that they can share to help me out as I'm guessing in the dark and failing at the moment!

Cheers, Simmo

ATV 3 with Plexconnect can't find any library error

When I launch Trailers (plexconnect) it says it can't find any libraries. It worked just a few days ago. I am running latest PlexConnect which I made sure to update just in case that was the problem. I did update to the latest version of PMS (0.9.12.18) a few days ago so that might be the problem. Anyone who can confirm this?

On Apple TV if I login to my plex account it shows me I have 0 PMS servers online. Which I find strange as when I log out says there is 1 server online.

I made sure to delete the plexconnect version just in case that was the problem but even with a freshly installed version I get the same error. I made sure to logout from plexconnect and PMS and then login again just to make sure that everything is connecting properly. Apple TV still don't see any libraries.

Just for testing I installed the master_backup version from github and when I run that version it worked so I am a little confused why the old version works but the latest doesn't.

Does anyone have a clue what might be going on?

Thanks

Plex Home & PMS myplex bug(s)

So I have been trying to narrow down what the issue is why I cannot access my local libraries while I'm in a PlexPass users Plex Home. Also when I lose internet service I need to sign out of myplex to use my local libraries. When I leave the Plex home I can access my local content or if I sign out of myplex on PMS I can access my local libraries as well. Here is the log when I am not signed into myplex in PlexConnect and cannot view my local libraries:

When I do sign out of myplex on PMS while I do or do not have internet or leave the plex home I can access my local libraries perfectly fine. Is there a way to fix this so if I do lose internet service it will automatically fall back to my local libraries and also while I'm in the plex home but not signed into myplex via PlexConnect but I am signed into myplex via PMS my local libraries will still work?

Music library problems

I don't know if PlexConnect is working as intended, or if the following situations are bugs, can you please clarify ?

  1. If I select "All Artists" in the top level menu I get an almost all black screen, with an horizontal line in the middle, and a "More" box that, when selected, give me the available albuns. It would be nicer to have a single screen, if possible
  2. If I select "By Genre" in the top level menu I get an almost all black screen, identical to situation 1. above, but this time the "More" button is not able to find any album
  3. If I select "By Decade" or "By Year" in the top level menu I get a list of available decades/years, but from then on I get no album list at all
  4. If I select "More..." I get the "Accessing Trailers" message with a never ending rotating circle. If I press "Menu" I return to the previous screen

Sending WOL Magic Packet

Hey Guys,

is it possible to send a Wake On Lan Magic Packet with Plex Connect?

If not, you may think about to include this function, maybe with awake (python) or something else?

User exits

Would it be possible to implement user exits in PlexConnect ? More specifically, I would love to call a script to launch PMS when I enter trailers because PMS is not allowing my Syno to sleep.

Maybe other users have similar needs.

[Github] plexinc forked PlexConnect. 3 years old. Can we get it deleted please?

While browing the plexinc Github projects page I found PlexConnect (but heard about it earlier) and thought about giving it a try. I just "installed" this 3 years old forked. I know this isn't a real problem (hello rm) but still ...

My Question now is: Why the Heck is plexinc forking it without modifying anything and still keeps it public for people to pull from it? Do they like to confuse users or do they just need someone who knows how to keep things organized?

A detailed description of the issue (the clearer you can make this the better):
I start the Trailers app on aTV and I see the PlexConnect main interface. I can get a list of all my movies and TV Shows (all without posters). I can see and edit the Settings too. As soon as I open a detail page for a media entry I don't get any information from PlexConnect to aTV anymore and I have to restart aTV to get it working again. And by working I mean "more or less" because no posters, no media detail page, etc.

Yes, I disabled PIN for my Plex account.

I only see one difference between the very first installation and every after that one.
After the first launch I always got "05:24:30 PlexAPI: Servers (local, plex.tv, MyPlex): 0" in console. After I logged into my Plex Account on the aTV PlexConnect settings the first time it always is "05:24:30 PlexAPI: Servers (local, plex.tv, MyPlex): 1" even without logging into my Plex Account on aTV Plex Connect. So even after completely purging PlexConnect and my Apple TV and reinstalling it, it still says "05:24:30 PlexAPI: Servers (local, plex.tv, MyPlex): 1" - and after logging in it says "05:24:30 PlexAPI: Servers (local, plex.tv, MyPlex): 2".

Ok, I guess I found something that can cause the problems. I deleted the logfile and set loglevel to High, started PlexConnect and tried to view a media detail page.

Log has entries like this:

05:48:35 ATVLogger: atv.onGenerateRequest done: http://trailers.apple.com/PMS(10.0.9.5:32400)/library/metadata/16024?includeExtras=1&PlexConnect=Movie_PrePlay&PlexConnectUDID=XXXXXXXXXXXX&PlexConnectATVName=Apple%20TV

My AppleTV has the IP 10.0.4.225 and in PlexConnect Settings.cfg I specified ip_pms = 192.168.0.112

Ok there is some serious bug in PlexConnect - or it's actually not what as what it's advertised as.
Since Plex itself doesn't give a damn **** about different subnets (randomly choosing an IP address) I changed some settings.

My Linux server (on which PMS, PlexPy and PlexConnect is running) has the following IP addresses:
1. 192.168.0.112
2. 10.0.4.5
3. 10.0.5.5
4. 10.0.6.5
5. 10.0.7.5
6. 10.0.8.5
7. 10.0.9.5

PMS is listening and serving content on all of these IPs. I now added A entry for media.an3k.lan for each of these IPs and added https://media.an3k.lan:32400,http://media.an3k.lan:32400 to the CSA URLs field in PMS so that this DNS name is sent to clients and not an IP address which is most of the time wrong (because the Plex logic here is plain stupid).

After I did that I finally got images shown on my aTV for the three libraries I have (Movies, TV Shows and Music). Great. But now I don't get any content listed when I open eg. Movies on the aTV.

Log has entries like this:

07:40:07 ATVLogger: atv.onGenerateRequest done: http://trailers.apple.com/PMS(media.an3k.lan:32400)/library/sections/1?PlexConnect=Plex_Movie_Scanner&PlexConnectUDID=XXXXXXXXXXXX&PlexConnectATVName=Apple%20TV

Because my aTV has the IP 10.0.4.225 and asks the DNS server located at 10.0.4.2 it gets "10.0.4.5" as an answer and Plex is right there.

So with the wrong IP address sent to aTV I don't get images (except the PlexConnect one in Settings) but a list of all the media I have. With the correct IP address I do get images but no list of media.
On my aTV PlexConnect tells me that the Plex Media Server said there is no Content.

Ensure you post your 'PlexConnect.log' file to pastebin and post the link ('PlexConnect.log' is located in your PlexConnect folder). If possible, follow these steps to create a "more detailed fresh" one:
Logfile without CSA URLs set (I do get a list of all my media in all three libraries but no images and as soon as I want to open a detail view something crashes and I have to restart my Apple TV): https://15254b2dcaab7f5478ab-24461f391e20b7336331d5789078af53.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/plex.vanillacommunity.com/editor/m4/8kathyz2vp5w.log
Logfile with CSA URLs set (I do NOT get a list of all my media in all three libraries but all images): https://15254b2dcaab7f5478ab-24461f391e20b7336331d5789078af53.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/plex.vanillacommunity.com/editor/sq/2qw236u0sh54.log

PlexConnect can't find any PMS libraries and I get the mentioned error in PlexConnect log.

I installed it using the following routine:
1. https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect#installation
2. https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/wiki/Install-Guide-Mac-Certificates#create-the-certificate
3. https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/wiki/Install-Guide-Mac-Certificates#add-the-certificate-files-to-plexconnect
4. https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/wiki/Install-Guide-Certificate-via-Ethernet

Because I have my own DNS server running and especially don't want to have another DNS messing around (or using Google DNS at all (tracking!?!)) I modified Settings.cfg as shown here

ip_pms is the internal LAN ip address of the Linux server PMS is running on. PlexConnect is running on the same server (I could use 127.0.0.1).
ip_plexconnect has to be 0.0.0.0 so that all IPs the Linux server has are served.

I can access PlexConnect from my AppleTV, checked the settings and so on. Everything works fine, except the connection between PlexConnect and Plex Media Server.

Do I have to login into my Plex Account on AppleTV first or add a new user or what?

Why does this Movie crash my Apple TV 3?

$

0

I've recently started to watch a couple movies via PlexConnect on my Apple TV. I normally only watch TV episodes that I download.

I have noticed that some 1080p content will play for awhile and then the ATV crashes and I get back to Front Row or whatever the call the main ATV menu home page.

Does anyone see anything odd about the following media info which would cause the ATV3 to **** a brick?

Thanks.

Sap / descriptive video in plex?

Hey everyone.

I use Sap to describe video to me, is there any way of building support into plex for sap?
Netflix has some shows with sap on them already but this doesn't seem to work in plex.

On the apple tv when I click on audio I only see Unknown audio, normaly there should be multiple streams with each media file.

Any help would be great!

PIL not installed after OS X update

I'm using OpenPlex (fantastic), but after the most recent OS X update for ElCap I get PIL/Pillow not installed on Plex Connect.
Tried a reinstall of OpenPlex and then CLT (showed as already installed) and PIL, which not install.
Any thoughts?
Do I need to go from scratch and reinstall OS X and everything?

suddenly when I rebooted my atv I noticed the only icons on the menu was computer and settings. Read something about Internetconnectionloss so I changed the dns to auto and it worked instantly and got the menu back. However I know I must have it manually pointed to my pc to get plex to work. Any tips to a workaround?

… despite this recommended change to the Settings.cfg:

! enable_plexgdm = False
! ip_pms = 192.168.26.1
! port_pms = 32400
! enable_dnsserver = True
! port_dnsserver = 53
! ip_dnsmaster = 192.168.26.26
! prevent_atv_update = True

! certfile = ./assets/certificates/trailers.pem
! allow_gzip_atv = False
! allow_gzip_pmslocal = False
! allow_gzip_pmsremote = True
! loglevel = Normal
! logpath = .

As per PlexConnect-gdmDisabled.log posted. Also, fwiw, signing in to myPlex now somehow manages to lose the PMS.

Anyway, all four combinations of True or False, after including enable_plexconnect_autodetect, each failed just as miserably and irrespective of PlexConnect’s then aTV’s restart in between. Abruptly gone those few revelling weeks since one and another initial hiccup were overcome.
Because of ditching VPN but for torrents? Beats me.

Went on to replace 0.5-dev-211015 with a fresh 0.5-dev-231115 one, only to find that this subject’s symptoms persist. No alleviation from Google’s DNS either, hence the modem-router’s ip-address: bit of a foolproof fallback I gathered (as it serves the ISP's internet to every here local device).

at my dizzy wits’ end,

PS - therefore, layman’s terms for diagnostics well appreciated

  • Apple TV 3, model A1469, software 7.2 (7512), dns 192.168.26.1
  • PlexConnect 0.5-dev-231115 and Plex Media Server 0.9.12.19 on 192.168.26.1, iMac 24” (‘Early 2009’), OS X 10.9.5 (13F1134)
  • network: iMac.ethernet > internet modem-router.wireless > AirPort.ethernet > switch.ethernet> aTV.hdmi> ‘smart’ PhilipsTV

Thanks and farewell

Just wanted to post a quick thank you to everyone involved in getting Plex running on the aTV3 using PlexConnect, but now Plex have released a client for the aTV4 I'm going to be using a legitimate client for the first time in years!

For anyone sat on the fence, I think the new aTV is great and whilst it does have it's flaws, the potential is huge.

Hope PlexConnect can continue to be developed for those still using a previous aTV, and thanks again to those who've helped me and provided support when things didn't always work as expected!
